Grandpa Fights Off Man Who Attempted To Kidnap Six-Year-Old Girl: Cops

An Indiana family was jolted out of bed when a man broke into their apartment and tried to kidnap their six-year-old granddaughter. The suspect, who has been identified as 37-year-old Benjamin Dillon, kicked down the door and screamed that his daughter was inside the apartment.

The girl's grandparents, Martin and Patricia Roth, fought off Dillon and forced him outside into the hallway.

"I was sound asleep in my bedroom, and this guy came kicking in and said, 'You have my daughter,'" Patricia Roth told Fox 59. "I was nervous, very nervous. I was shaking so bad."

When the police arrived, he became aggressive and started fighting with the officers. They had to fire multiple tasers to subdue him.

He was eventually taken into custody and charged with multiple crimes, including burglary, battery on a law enforcement officer, and intimidation.

Dillon denies the accusations and claims it was just a misunderstanding. He offered an apology to the family.

"I am truly sorry for coming to your apartment door, for waking you up," Dillon said. "I know I didn't kick your door in. It's a mistake."

The Roths believe that Dillon was on drugs during the terrifying incident and they hope he can get help.

"I hope he gets the help he needs and I hope he gets himself back on his feet," said Roth.

While the young girl was not hurt, the incident scared her and Roth has a warning for Dillon if he ever comes back.

"I wouldn't want him walking back in my apartment again. He will regret it the next time."
