$1 Mill Raised For Black Bar Owner Whose Property Was Destroyed In Protests

As you know, several Minneapolis restaurants and businesses were looted and vandalized during the protests following the death of George Floyd, but one local entrepreneur has seen a GoFundMe account in his name reach over $1 million dollars.

Former firefighter-turned sports bar owner Korboi Balla was one of the local restaurant owners impacted by the looting and lost his life savings when rioters destroyed his business. According to Balla, the Scores Sports Bar was set to open in the coming weeks after a delay with COVID-19, as per updated guidelines from the governor, but plans changed after the looting. "I don't know what we’re going to do," Balla told CBS News on Thursday (May 28) as he held back tears. "It hurts, man. It's not fair. It's not right. We've been working so hard for this place. It's not just for me. It's for my family."

Afterwards, Balla opened the GoFundMe account, admitting that his business "is left trying to pick up the pieces amidst mourning with the community." Thankfully, the community turned out. At time of press, the account had surpassed its goal and raised $1,030,260 since its creation four days ago. Click here for more information on how you can help out on the cause!
