The U.S. women's hockey team clinched a berth in the gold medal game with a 5-0 win against Sweden in the semifinals during the 10th day of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics on Monday (February 16).
Cayla Barnes scored the decisive first goal 5:09 into the first period, which was followed by second period goals by Taylor Heise, Abbey Murphy, Kendall Coyne and Hayley Scamurra. The Americans have cruised to a 6-0 record and outscored their opponents by a 31-1 margin through their first six games.
Team USA will face the winner of the other semifinals matchup between Canada and Switzerland in the gold medal game on Thursday (February 19).
Elana Meyers Taylor won her first gold and sixth medal overall in the women's monobob during her fifth Winter Olympic appearance. Taylor, 41, who had previously won silver in the monobob at the 2022 Beijing Games and two-woman at the 2014 Sochi and 2018 Pyeongchang Games, as well as bronze in the two-woman at the 2010 Vancouver and 2022 Beijing Games, tied speed skater Bonnie Blair as the most decorated female American winter Olympian in history.
American-born skier Eileen Gu, who opted to instead represent China, finished second in the women's freeski big air behind Canada's Megan Oldham. Gu, who won gold in the big air and halfpipe events at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, also took silver in the slopestyle.
