Sublime are releasing their first new studio album in nearly three decades.
The California legends announced Thursday (March 27) that Until the Sun Explodes will arrive on June 12 and the band has already dropped the title track as the lead single, along with a music video.
The 21-track album features the band's original members, bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh, alongside frontman Jakob Nowell, the 30-year-old son of the band's late co-founding singer and guitarist, Bradley Nowell.
The announcement can on Instagram where Jakob Nowell addressed the weight of carrying on his father's legacy in an emotional statement. "The last Sublime record that will ever be made is Self-Titled. There's no replacing history, period," he said. "'Until the Sun Explodes' the album is an epilogue, and 'Until the Sun Explodes' the single is the epilogue to the epilogue. It is a tribute to the expansive works of Sublime, it is an acknowledgment for all that my father has done for me my entire life, and most importantly it is a thank you. I love you dad, and I owe you my life."
In a statement, Gaugh called the album a natural and unforced effort. "The whole album came together rather effortlessly," he said. "We like it to be natural, not composed and enforced. We didn't forget our roots. It's the same recipe; we added a couple of extra spices to bring it up to date and add that new market value."
