Metallica's Kirk Hammett blasted modern pop music while calling today's songwriting "crap."

The rocker did not mince words about his views on today's singer-songwriters, citing easier ways to make music than in decades past.

"I kind of lament those days when people had to really struggle to learn, because it's all in the struggle," Hammett told The Irish Times recently. "And it's all in the determination and being inspired at the same time that forces you to come up with your own stuff and eventually your own sound and style. I just worry about, how things are so perfect these days, the musicianship. It's great that all these guitar players have all this vast knowledge of technique at their fingertips. I hope it leads to a better quality of pop music and just a better quality of songwriting. Because right now, songwriting and pop music is crap."

During their current European tour, the legendary metal band donated more than $26,000 to Cardiff Foodbank after performing at the Welsh city's Principality Stadium on June 28.

"We're thrilled to share that Metallica, who played in Cardiff last night, are donating to Cardiff foodbank," the organization wrote on Instagram. "This timely donation will help replenish our warehouse and could support around 1,000 people, the equivalent of 9,000 meals."
