Iran has rejected a proposal for a temporary 45-day ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, insisting instead on a complete end to the ongoing conflict. This development comes as countries, including the United States, work to find a resolution to the war. According to a White House official, President Donald Trump has not signed off on the ceasefire proposal, which was drafted by several countries.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that a temporary ceasefire would allow adversaries to regroup and continue the war. He emphasized that Iran seeks a permanent end to hostilities to prevent future conflicts. The proposal was sent to both Iran and the United States, with hopes that it would allow for negotiations to end the conflict permanently.

In recent developments, President Trump set a deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, threatening severe consequences if it remains closed. Trump is expected to address the situation in a news conference scheduled for today (April 6) at 1 p.m. ET.

Despite the rejection of the ceasefire proposal, mediators remain hopeful that an agreement can be reached before the deadline. The situation continues to evolve, with international efforts focused on preventing further escalation and finding a peaceful resolution.
