A one-year-old child was hospitalized after a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old went airborne off a Tulsa bridge and landed upside down on Interstate 244 early Saturday (April 11), according to police. The crash led to a temporary closure of eastbound lanes as emergency crews responded to the scene near Southwest Boulevard.

Tulsa Police said the vehicle was traveling west on West 41st Street when the teen driver failed to stop at a stop sign at 25th West Avenue and Southwest Boulevard. He then lost control on a curve, struck a curb, and the car became airborne over a drainage ditch, crashing through a fence and falling about 15 feet onto the interstate below. An 18-year-old passenger and the one-year-old child were also in the car at the time of the crash.

When officers arrived around 5:08 a.m., they found the car overturned on its roof with the child crying inside. Authorities said the child was not in a car seat but is expected to recover after being transported to a hospital by ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation and that charges against the teen driver are possible.

Tulsa Police and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol shut down the interstate to allow firefighters and EMS crews access to the wreckage. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information to contact them at (918) 596-9222 and reference case No. 2026-016957.

Officials have not released details about the relationship between the driver, the passenger, and the child. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as authorities determine if charges will be filed regarding the incident.
