A deadly shooting erupted Wednesday evening (June 3) in the parking lot of Fairfield High School in Northern California, killing an 18-year-old and wounding three others, including an 11-year-old, according to the Fairfield Police Department. The incident occurred shortly after a graduation ceremony for Sem Yeto High School had ended, as families and graduates took photographs outside.

Police responded to reports of gunfire around 7:15 p.m. local time. The 18-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victims—aged 11, 20, and 25—were taken to the hospital. Their current conditions have not been released.

Authorities have not identified any suspects, and no arrests have been made as of Thursday (June 4). The Fairfield Police Department said there is no ongoing threat to the community, and the investigation is ongoing. Police have not confirmed whether the deceased teen was a student at the school.

The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District expressed sympathy for those affected, saying in a statement, "Our thoughts are with the individuals affected and as soon as we have more details we will share that." Fairfield Mayor Catherine Moy added in a statement shared on social media: "The shooter will face justice, but now I’m praying for the families affected and all of those who witnessed the shootings."

Witnesses described the chaos that followed the shooting. Amanda Prieto, a neighbor, told KCRA: "I looked over the fence and people were just screaming and running through the parking lot. It was horrific."
