Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky was admitted to the hospital on Sunday morning (June 14), according to his spokesperson. The 84-year-old Republican lawmaker is receiving care, though the reason for his hospitalization was not immediately disclosed.

"Senator McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning. He is receiving excellent care," spokesperson David Popp said in a statement. Popp did not provide additional details about McConnell's condition or the cause of his hospitalization.

This marks the latest in a series of health concerns for McConnell in recent years. In February 2026, he was hospitalized for eight days with what his office described as "flu-like symptoms." In 2023, he suffered a concussion and broken ribs after a fall, and on two separate occasions that year, he froze mid-sentence while speaking with reporters. He has also experienced multiple falls and used a wheelchair as a precautionary measure.

Last year, McConnell announced he would not seek reelection in 2026. Republican Representative Andy Barr, endorsed by President Donald Trump, will face Democratic former state lawmaker Charles Booker in the November election to replace him. When his term ends, McConnell said he will leave the Senate "with great hope for the endurance of the Senate as an institution."
